The security of the Persian gulf meeting held between the secretary of state Hillary Clinton and the Gulf states heads have shown clearly the American strategic support for these countries.
The only reason for supporting these tribal systems is the securing of the hydrocarbon supply from the biggest potential hydrocarbon reserves located in the world.
On the other hand these mini-states fill threatened from the major regional power in the area - Iran - that it may dominate them if they don't have the security shielding provided by the states as it has done before in the Gulf War 1 and 2.
